ASPHALT

Asphalt is not a traditionnal photomagazine…Asphalt is a concept, published twice a year in April and October.
Founded in 2008, by the photographers Atsushi Fujiwara and Shin-Ichiro Tojimbara, Asphalt is born after a meeting in the famous bar "Kodoji" where Araki and Moriyama used to go during the 60's. Few time after, they published the first issue and have been joined by Akira Hasegawa, famous editor of the most important japanese photobooks.
The early concept was to bring together their own material to be able to take over the next generation of photographers but with Hasegawa, the concept evolved to a bi-annual magazine with a photographer guest and open it to the emerging photography outside of Japan.
But one thing doesn't move: Right from its conception, Asphalt was created with the intention to produce a finite series of just ten issues.
